Due to a manic schedule (and maybe a bit of well earned laziness!) we have had what can only be described as a communications black out over the last few weeks. Well, back from travels sorting arrangements for forthcoming events which we’ll announce very soon, we thought we’d update you with a couple of posts on recent events.
Last month saw Wet Paint Productions’ Aerosol Art workshops kick off at the Open Market, Brighton, and we had a full house every time. From seven year-olds to a thirty something stag party, we found ourselves teaching the uninitiated how to spray paint and with great success. Our young apprentices especially threw themselves into the action and couldn’t wait to get their hands dirty as these pictures prove. Under the guidance of Foundry and Snub 23 we think we have helped to produce some budding little graffiti artists. We have to also thank Funky Red Dog and Limbo for their direction too.
Having already received a lot of requests for more we will update you soon with future dates.

Brighton graffiti and street art got some well deserved recognition in the way of a centre double page spread in The Argus, on Saturday 14th. Talking about an art revolution in the city they go on to extoll the benefits of graffiti bettering “unloved or monochrome areas”. The article features images of work by Aroe and Heavy Artillery, Req, Rarekind, Hutch and Banksy (we dispute that) to name a few. And although we don’t get a name check, Wet Paint Productions and the artists we work with are responsible for some of it too. That includes Snub 23 and Sinna who are both quoted in the article. To view it big hit HERE.

Based at the Open Market in the centre of Brighton, groups of no more than five per session will receive a great introduction to street art in a safe and urban environment. All paint and protective equipment is supplied.

At Wet Paint, we’re pretty much addicted to the stuff and given half a chance we’ll get our hands dirty whenever we can. So, to spice up the launch of compARTment at the Open Market in Brighton this Saturday, we asked some artists to put some work up to mark the occassion. compARTment is a collective of artists, crafts people and social entrepreneurs from the slack space movement in Brighton who are looking to revitalize large empty/disused sites in the city and they asked us to get involved. Headed up by Snub 23, artists including Foundry, Matt Sewell, T.wat and the infamous Luke da Duke (over for a rare visit) got busy and transformed the site before the grand opening and live paint session tomorrow. So if you’re in he neighbourhood we hope to see you there.

A month of Brugal Brighton kicked off yesterday with Don, Foundry, Pinky and Mishfit (respectively) getting up on the Paint Box in Jubilee Square. The artists and onlookers could have been in the Caribbean as the temperatures soared into the high seventies yesterday with great weather and art guaranteed again for today. These shots are of the work in progress and each mural depicting the essence of rum and the Dominican Republic will be finished today. Wet Paint Productions will upload the finished pieces later and announce more news of planned in-bar promotions involving artists pimping tee-shirts and more live painting dates to come in June. You can see more photos HERE.

Just when you thought is was all over, Wet Paint Productions are back and this time working with London – based agency Billington Cartmel to promote Brugal rum in a month-long street art campaign across Brighton. Originating from the Dominican Republic, the ethos behind Brugal is passion and vitality for life centered around sun, sea and dancing, music and nightlife, as well as vibrant street art that can be seen all over the island. The combination of laid-back yet creative culture meant that Brighton was a perfect match for the launch of Brugal in the UK via a street art based campaign. Wet Paint Productions were chosen as the perfect partners to deliver the street up events. Activities for the launch will continue throughout June across the city starting with live painting in Jubilee Square over the next two days – 3/4 June. Come and see Don, Pinky, Mishfit and Foundry painting live and projecting their tropical take on this sugar cane spirit and the spirit it represents. See you there for a taste of the Carribean mixed with some great street art!

TB&TC artist T.WAT’s latest work has caught the attention of the national newspapers over the last few days during the countdown to the general election. The latest red top to feature his work is The Daily Star. We know this comes from the heart and despite the Banksy references, T.WAT’s art always projects his beliefs and that sets him aside from other artists’ work. You can see him getting up live over the TB&TC weekend of 8/9 May, by which time the outcome will be determined. So make sure you’re there to see him, Hutch, Hop Louie, Leeks, Stickee and Agent Provocateur get up in Gloucester Road, Brighton. And who knows, by then Brighton may even have the first ever elected Green MP.

Hands up if you’re down with Req! In some respects, Brighton graffiti artist/producer Req embodies the clichés of British underground club music: no formal musical training whatsoever; a youth spent tagging, DJing and breakdancing in the wake of the first wave of hip-hop culture to hit the U.K. A knack for pushing artistic sensibilities to their breaking point and coming up with exciting new directions, Req’s art is no different from his music (as heard in the TB&TC film) and has smartly sidled into the classical. Heralded for his beautifully painted ‘soft’ nudes – which if an aging Monet had painted using Molotow is what his work would have looked like – Req stands alone. Get down to Brighton for 8/9 May and see something special. Licensed to paint sites up soon. Like Req’s canvases we want to keep you hanging and yes his art will be for sale!
