Channel 4′s Street Summer Midlands’ Design

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2011

Last, but by no means least, of the films covering the cities Wet Paint Productions covered for Channel 4′s Street Summer season is Birmingham. This was a weird one as Lucy, the winning entrant, was unable to take part as she was busy bouncing around Europe and couldn’t make it back in time so it was left to mentor Ventsa of Four Pence Collective to recreate her design as he explains here. On this film Ventsa also touches upon the graffiti versus street art argument and what is art and what is vandalism? A subject which Graffiti Wars – a film commissioned as part of the Street Summer season about the fued between King Robbo and Banksy – tried to tackle. Ironically this competition sparked similar arguments that played out across several forums, chat rooms and websites. Massive thanks to Ventsa and all of the artists for their help and support on this project. For more information on Street Summer and it’s offerings hit HERE.

Manchester’s Street Summer Entry Goes Up

Monday, August 15th, 2011

Manchester’s winning entry for Channel 4′s Street Summer season went up at the start of the month. Designed by local writer Theodore and mentored by Sheffield’s own Faunagraphic, the piece draws inspiration from an unlikely source. In this film, Theodore explains that his design is based on a painting by the Czech Art Nouveau artist Alphonse Mucha no less. Watch the film for an explaination and look out for Fauna’s expression – it’s priceless. Wet Paint would like to thank Faunagraphic and all of the artists we worked with during this project. And to view all of the regional winners and their films skip to the Don’t Panic website HERE.

Channel 4′s Street Summer

Friday, June 10th, 2011

Street Summer
This summer Channel 4 is celebrating British street culture with some quality new programmes dedicated to the different elements of street-level genius, focusing on: street dance, urban sports, spoken word, hip hop and (yes, you’ve guessed it) street art! Wet Paint were asked by Don’t Panic - a unique free publication found in carefully selected independent shops, bars, universities and art spaces – to help out with some of the artists and cities.
Don’t Panic is running a design competition on the Don’t Panic site for all budding designers, graffiti and street artists to come up with a creative design. The winners of the competition will have their design used as an advertisement for Channel 4′s Street Summer schedule of programming. They will also have their design printed to postcards and the Don’t Panic Poster to be distributed around the UK.
We’ll be posting some more information about the competition soon but in the meantime here is one of the six videos up on the Don’t Panic site. It features Faunagraphic giving us the heads up on the Northern scene and if you can’t wait to see the other films then make sure to visit:

Wet Paint Commission Carlos Garde-Martin

Tuesday, December 7th, 2010

At Wet Paint we are currently working with Brighton based illustrator Carlos Garde-Martin to deliver a commission for Social Media Agency NixonMcInnes. When we were asked to fit the brief to liven up their offices and meeting rooms, Carlos was never far from our minds. NixonMcInnes wanted the artwork to inspire their staff as well as impress their clients which include Channel 4, BMW, WWF, HSBC and Mercedes-Benz. These shots are work the in progress and we’ll post the finished job soon.
