SheOne

Wet Paint Productions and Brighton played host to the mighty SheOne this weekend and got a brand new wall from the master of typography in to the bargain. SheOne is firmly routed in Brighton’s graffiti history going back to the early 80′s and along with Req, put up the first pieces on the city’s long-standing hall of fame, Black Rock. Flash forward thirty years and the London-based artist who has gained international recognition and proved that graffiti has a place in the contemporary art world, has taken his style across the globe. Recently, he and fellow Transcend collaborator O.Two, were personally invited to France by the mayor of Ville De Niort to paint a massive production on the side of the city’s Cultural Arts Centre. Last year SheOne was also one of just 100 of the world’s most celebrated writers and street artists invited to secretly paint a disused subway station in New York City as part of The Underbelly Project. Quite frankly, SheOne’s unique brand of abstract painting has led to collaborations and achievements too numerous to list here. That said, Wet paint are grateful to him for an amazing signature piece and urge you all to keep a close eye on his website for some out of sight projects looming on the horizon.

A chance meeting at a Wet Paint party brought the Family Bottrell and Snub 23 together. Local resident Simon explained to Snub how his four-year-old daughter had enquired after the welfare of the planet once her parents had left this mortal coil and what state of affairs would their planet be in? This not only left a lump in his throat but gave Simon a great idea…promote ecological issues through a graffiti mural as part of Brighton’s Festival Fringe! Snub 23, who is powered by Kobra, rounded up some of the crew and put the plan in to action with the backing of many of Preston Drove’s residents. The key messages that came from the younger members of the Bottrell clan were don’t drop litter, conserve water, don’t fly – go camping instead, and walk, skateboard or bike to school. Following the ecological theme, local artists joining Snub 23 were Sinna One, Pinky, Women 158 and ZeeZeeTwentyTwo, who produced this production to a delighted audience of local residents. Above are some images from the forty foot mural but click HERE to see the joiner courtesy of local photographer Big Zee. If you have an idea for a graffiti project or even need an eco wall contact Wet Paint HERE.

As promised, we give you yet more photos from the WET PAINT PRODUCTIONS’ inCANdescent showcase as part of Brighton’s White Night festival. Positive that we have delivered a first, our event rocked the city as it has never been seen before. Wet Paint’s unique concept not only caught the imagination of the council but all of the thousands of people who attended our ‘light graffiti spectacular’ in Jubilee Square as part of the this city-wide event. It’s important to remember though, that without the amazing talents of the artists and a dedicated team, events like this can’t be realised. So, with that in mind, we need to thank the people that made it happen: First shout goes out to our main man Russell, who worked tirelessly to see the project through (you know who are playa!), and to all the artists for their work and vision. Thank you and we look forward to buying you a stiff drink at the WPP Xmas party: Fay MacDonald, of Diosa Media, who is a visionary who never lets us down and underpinned the White Night/Wet Paint concept. WPP also need thank Snowstorm and the crew, Andy cummins for being a legend, Giles Smith for his doubtless hard work and help and my sister who is in hospital but wishing the best for us (please, get well soon soon).

Lumacoustic’s Digital Wall

Pinky

Mishfit

Hutch

Req
At Wet Paint Productions, we have just about recovered from our latest event, inCANdescent – the centrepiece to Brighton’s 2010 White Night festival. Themed on illumination, the city plays host to amazing installations that light the streets of our fair, funky city which entices shops, galleries, municipal buildings and people to stay up late. Commissioned by Brighton & Hove City Council, with support from art republic and Ink_d gallery, Wet Paint’s idea to illuminate columns in Jubilee Square and have some of Brighton’s best graffiti and street artists paint them using transparent paint went down a storm. Thousands of people turned up to watch the event which started with a dance routine from local street dancers Same Sky, followed by live painting from Mishfit, Req, Pinky, Hutch and Imbue. Lumacoustics (as seen on Dragon’s Den) were also on hand with their digital graffiti wall for the public to create their own art, while local film and documentary makers Snowstorm Media rolled out especially commissioned street art films projected on to Myhotel, throughout the night. Being Brighton, the afternoon had started with a Zombie Walk and the whole city was alive with the walking dead which made for a surreal but amazing vibe. We’ll post some more pictures soon if you can’t wait that long hit HERE for more!

Rocket & Faunagraphic

Faunagraphic detail

Kelzo at work
Kelzo

Faunagraphic & Panda
Long overdue are these amazing pictures (courtesy Ant Clausen) from Wet Paint commissioned artists Kelzo, Faunagraphic, Rocket 1 and Panda hitting up the PaintBox and bringing the Brugal message to Manchester. Set up in the bohemian Northern quarter of the city, the roadshow drew a crowd despite the weather and the writers’ work injected much needed colour on a wet October day. We asked them to think Dominican Republic, sand, surf, sun and rum, and then unleashed them onto a 24ft x 8ft blank ‘canvas’ and unsuspecting public. As soon as we have the short film from the day we’ll post it. In the meantime, you can follow the Brugal blog to find out more about the street art activities Wet Paint are putting on for the campaign and you can follow Brugal on facebook.

Anyone who follows WetpaintUK on twitter (and were up early enough) may have noted that we were on our way to the airport at silly o’clock this morning. The reason: The launch of Brugal rum in Edinburgh and Manchester. Two destinations, two great cities and nine amazing artists all in one weekend. First up, Edinburgh. If you live in the city and passed the castle today you would have noticed Syrkus, Rekor, Lyken, Conzo and Vues’ take on the Caribbean’s favourite rum as they went to work on the PaintBox in Castle Street. The weather held, the work went up and we may have even converted a few whisky drinkers to boot. These are just a few shots from today’s activities from live graff to T-shirt pimping at the Candy Bar. Tomorrow we’ll post the complete pieces before we hit Hawke and Hunter for live painting and more tee pimping for the discerning punter. See you there. Salud!

As part of the preparations for the forthcoming White Night festival on the night of 30th October across Brighton, Wet Paint Productions helped to arrange a press photo shoot to promote the event. Brighton graffiti and street art got some well deserved recognition in the way of a centre double page spread in The Argus, on Saturday 14th. Talking about an art revolution in the city they go on to extoll the benefits of graffiti bettering “unloved or monochrome areas”. The article features images of work by Aroe and Heavy Artillery, Req, Rarekind, Hutch and Banksy (we dispute that) to name a few. And although we don’t get a name check, Wet Paint Productions and the artists we work with are responsible for some of it too. That includes Snub 23 and Sinna who are both quoted in the article. To view it big hit HERE.

Our good friends at Graffitimundo who promote Buenos Aires street art and graffiti artists from this amazing city, kick off this video on the BBC website covering the Argentinian street art and general art scene. Last night saw one of Brighton’s finest Mishfit pimping T-shirts as part of the in-bar Brugal Brighton launch in pubs across the city centre. The rules are simple: buy a Brugal rum and you get a free tee for the artists to customize. The punters were definitely loving their shirts just as much as the rum. Tonight is the turn of Foundry and Snub 23 (recently back from his Secret Wars win at Upfest – so he has his eye in!). We’ll be at the Mash Tun from 8.30pm, the White Rabbit from 9.30pm and Riki Tik from 11.30pm. If you’re in Brighton and want some exclusive T-Shirts then make sure you’re at one of these venue tonight!
