Lumacoustic’s Digital Wall

Pinky

Mishfit

Hutch

Req

At Wet Paint Productions, we have just about recovered from our latest event, inCANdescent – the centrepiece to Brighton’s 2010 White Night festival. Themed on illumination, the city plays host to amazing installations that light the streets of our fair, funky city which entices shops, galleries, municipal buildings and people to stay up late. Commissioned by Brighton & Hove City Council, with support from art republic and Ink_d gallery, Wet Paint’s idea to illuminate columns in Jubilee Square and have some of Brighton’s best graffiti and street artists paint them using transparent paint went down a storm. Thousands of people turned up to watch the event which started with a dance routine from local street dancers Same Sky, followed by live painting from Mishfit, Req, Pinky, Hutch and Imbue. Lumacoustics (as seen on Dragon’s Den) were also on hand with their digital graffiti wall for the public to create their own art, while local film and documentary makers Snowstorm Media rolled out especially commissioned street art films projected on to Myhotel, throughout the night. Being Brighton, the afternoon had started with a Zombie Walk and the whole city was alive with the walking dead which made for a surreal but amazing vibe. We’ll post some more pictures soon if you can’t wait that long hit HERE for more!

Faunagraphic

It’s that time again! Crack open the Brugal rum and grab your tees ’cause the Wet Paint T-shirt pimps are back! This time it was the turn of Manchester’s Faunagraphic (pictured on her way up to Scotland last Friday) to get the bottle rolling in Edinburgh before this weekend’s Brugal launch in Auld Reekie. Fauna rocked the Candy Bar in George Street and all of you wanting to see live graffiti and street art should be in Castle Street this Friday and Saturday (15th & 16th October) to see Scotland’s finest in action. We’ll update you on all of this weekend’s action tomorrow!

“Graffiti can be artistic…”

Monday, August 16th, 2010

Brighton graffiti and street art got some well deserved recognition in the way of a centre double page spread in The Argus, on Saturday 14th. Talking about an art revolution in the city they go on to extoll the benefits of graffiti bettering “unloved or monochrome areas”. The article features images of work by Aroe and Heavy Artillery, Req, Rarekind, Hutch and Banksy (we dispute that) to name a few. And although we don’t get a name check, Wet Paint Productions and the artists we work with are responsible for some of it too. That includes Snub 23 and Sinna who are both quoted in the article. To view it big hit HERE.

Foundry

So, when Wet Paint were contacted by a family run goldsmiths and jewellers in Peacehaven (near Brighton) called Studio Crafts, the conversation went something like this:

“Hi, can you do some graffiti on the side of our shop?”

“Err, yes. What do you want exactly?”

“Well, we’re a jewellers and we want a realistic impression of our workshop on the outside of the shop.”

“Right…we’ll send in Foundry!”

So, after the tedious plumb lines for the perspectives went up and the cans came out, we wanted to share the amazing results with you. A huge thanks to the man Foundry – Mr. Photoreal himself, who was working in some pretty high winds at the time and for his sheer diligence and the expertise he brought to the job. This guy is seriously talented and his work never fails to impress.

So if your driving along the A259 to Brighton, keep your eyes peeled.

Start Them Young – Graffiti Workshops for Kids

Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010

Just call us the saviors of parents. With the summer school holidays in full swing, Wet Paint Productions have introduced graffiti taster workshops for kids from 7 upwards. Instead of sat in front of a TV wearing their thumbs to the bone on games consoles (or whatever it is kids do these days), we are now giving them the chance to experience aerosol art and graffiti techniques under the guidance of respected and talented, local artists. Based at the Open Market in the centre of Brighton, groups of no more than five per session will receive a great introduction to street art in a safe and urban environment. All paint and protective equipment is supplied.

As places and sessions are limited we advise that you book quickly. For more information an bookings contact us at: wetpaintproductions@hotmail.com

So, whether you are a student, street art enthusiast, or have a child who would benefit from a positive way to learn basic creative graffiti skills, we look forward to hearing from you.

Brighton graffiti, street art, Snub23, Luke Da Duke, Graffiti, Wet Paint Productions

As part of the launch of compARTment at the open market in Brighton yesterday, Wet Paint Productions were asked to provide some live painting (courtesy of SNUB 23 and Mishfit: finished piece HERE) to a backdrop of musical performances and fat beats and scratch mixing. Having been asked to coordinate artists to rejuvenate the space, a steady stream of writers and street artists have been flowing through there all week transforming what was a tired space into a wall of art. Wet Paint Productions, will be continuing this programme over the next month as well as holding graffiti workshops there – more information to follow soon. Wet Paint, have already begun working with local shop owners and the wider community to revitalise urban spaces, shops and workplaces. Graffitmundo on the BBC

Thursday, July 29th, 2010

Our good friends at Graffitimundo who promote Buenos Aires street art and graffiti artists from this amazing city, kick off this video on the BBC website covering the Argentinian street art and general art scene. Their amazing street art tour was recently named the number one thing to do (out of 10) with just 36 hours in the city, by the New York Times. If anyone is planning a trip to BA, then Wet Paint highly recommend it! (You can see some pictures HERE) They have received press from ABC News and now the BBC have joined the throng and are extolling the virtues of Argentinian art and covering the surge in interest from European collectors. Well, if anyone out there are interested, Wet Paint still have some original pieces by Run Don’t Walk (pictured), Pum Pum and Gualicho (to name a few) available. Just contact us via the comments link on the blog or directly on: wetpaintproductions@hotmail.com We will send you images, prices and arrange delivery. Wet Paint hope to bring you updates on forthcoming collaborations soon. So stay tuned!

Bringing Buenos Aires to Brighton!

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

Artwork has already begun to flood in from many of the TB&TC artists and all of it looks great and will be available to buy from our pop-up gallery at Myhotel over the weekend of 8/9 May. We are really excited to announce though that will also have some Latin flavour for you thanks to our very good friends at Graffiti Mundo, who based in the beautiful city of B.A work directly with some of the most exciting artists this city has to offer. Over Christmas we were lucky enough to go on their unique graffiti tour which the New York Times recently suggested as one of the top 10 things to do while there. Pictured is artwork from Fede of Run Don’t Walk, the huge talents that are Tec, Gualicho and the amazing Pum Pum – the first lady of B.A street art. This is a unique opportunity to get some great artwork at great prices from artists who are just starting to forge their way on the global scene!

One Man Req-ing Crew!

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Hands up if you’re down with Req! In some respects, Brighton graffiti artist/producer Req embodies the clichés of British underground club music: no formal musical training whatsoever; a youth spent tagging, DJing and breakdancing in the wake of the first wave of hip-hop culture to hit the U.K.  A  knack for pushing artistic sensibilities to their breaking point and coming up with exciting new directions, Req’s art is no different from his music (as heard in the TB&TC film) and  has smartly sidled into the classical. Heralded for his beautifully painted ‘soft’ nudes – which if an aging Monet had painted using Molotow is what his work would have looked like – Req stands alone. Get down to Brighton for 8/9 May and see something special. Licensed to paint sites up soon. Like Req’s canvases we want to keep you hanging and yes his art will be for sale!
